We can’t wait to officially welcome you and your student to CU Boulder next week and kickoff Fall Welcome! If you’ll be on campus with your student for move-in, we’d like to invite you to stop by the Family Lounge located on the 5th floor of the UMC. In addition to being a place to relax and ask questions, the Family Lounge will have refreshments, giveaways and representation from various offices and departments on campus.

Next week, you will begin receiving our regular Buff Family Newsletter. This bi-weekly newsletter contains important dates, campus updates and helpful tips throughout the academic year. We will continue to support you and your student through their transition to CU Boulder; please feel free to call, email or visit our office!

Move-in information

Students living in residence halls have assigned move-in dates and times with corresponding color-coded parking permits and maps to their residence hall. Arriving during your student’s assigned time will provide a better move-in experience - remind your student to check their CU Boulder email for move-in directions and parking permit and review the Housing & Dining website for additional instructions.

Fall Welcome family sessions

Fall Welcome sessions for families occur Sunday, Aug. 19 through Tuesday, Aug. 21 on a repeating basis. Sessions topics include advising and academic support, health and wellness, and navigating the transition to college; each day will conclude with a Buff Family Social. Families are welcome to attend sessions all in one day or choose sessions that best fit your schedule on different days of the week.

Letters from Home

Letters from Home provides an opportunity for families to write a letter to their student that will be delivered during the third week of classes, typically the toughest time of the transition. Stop by the Family Lounge to write a letter - your student’s housing assignment email contains their box number to include in their residence hall mailing address. Letters can also be submitted online starting Aug. 18.

Download the CU Boulder Welcome app

The CU Boulder Welcome mobile app gives you access to campus information in one easy location, including a campus map, on-campus dining options and contact information for resources on campus. Access the Fall Welcome Guide for a complete schedule of Fall Welcome events and reminders. Download the CU Boulder Welcome app for Apple or Android, and encourage your student to do the same!

Getting ready for fall

Remember that students have some important steps as the semester gets started. Health Requirements are due by September 17. Students must also complete their online Community Equity course and CheckUp & Choices WellCheck, which they can access through their MyCUInfo portal.

Parking for Fall Welcome

Be prepared for parking during Fall Welcome. If you have a student moving into the residence halls they received specific instructions to their CU Boulder email account. If you do not have a student moving into the residence halls, you will be able to park in the Euclid Parking Garage.

Buff Family Advice

“Dorm life is not all there is to CU. Encourage your student to explore clubs, sports and new hobbies. From religious groups to knitters to softball, there's something for everyone! Not only will this introduce your student to new interests, but new friends will help combat any loneliness they may experience in that first year.” – CU Buff parent
