First Steps

Your New Student Welcome Experience will have a few key steps for you to complete before starting classes this fall. Remember to continue using Buff Portal as your guide this summer – it will take you step-by-step through important tasks and to-do items!

Online Experience

The first step is to complete the Online Experience, our online orientation program. You’ll learn more about advising, registering for classes and campus resources. It must be completed before you can register for fall classes. The Online Experience will be available beginning February 24.

Enrollment Dates

Each summer term has a unique deadline to register for classes. New students may enroll in classes during any summer term, excluding Maymester and Augmester.

After completing the Online Experience, you will be able to register for fall classes. You are able to register from May 26 - June 12 and registration will reopen July 6 - August 19.

Placement Assessments

You are encouraged to complete placement assessments by May 27. Not all assessments may be required for you, so please check with your academic advisor if you have questions about which assessments you will need to complete. Review and complete applicable placement assessments soon.

Advising

Before you start registering for fall classes, plan on connecting with an academic advisor. Your advisor will be able to give you advice on registering and answer your questions prior to starting the process. Advising appointments will be available starting in late May. Make sure to complete the Online Experience before scheduling. Click "Step 2 - Advising" in Buff Portal to make an appointment.
